MEMO: Sierra Club in Bonn at SB 56

Cherelle Blazer, the Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Director, will be in attendance at the Bonn SB 56 meetings from June 6-16. She will be focusing on Loss and Damage and the Glasgow Dialogue during the meetings and will be able to speak on those issues as well as energy issues (coal, oil, and gas), climate, and fossil fuel financing. 

Additionally, during the meetings, Cherelle will be co-hosting the next installment of the Sierra Club’s series of conversations with the #Blairisms about global climate justice and the African Diaspora leading up to the 27th UN Climate Conference this November. The June 2022 conversation will feature storyteller and content creator Shaun Derik and a grassroots climate leader and will air live on the #BLAIRISMS Instagram at 4 pm CEST/ 10am EDT on Sunday, June 12.

Cherelle Blazer’s Bio

As the Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Campaign Director, Cherelle works to combat the global climate crisis and address structural racism and inequity through international movement building, diaspora engagement, and an equitable and just transition away from fossil fuels.⁣ 

Cherelle’s 20-year career began in the Gulf South working on air quality and public health. Having seen the climate crisis and cancer epidemic unfold in her community, she attended Southern University and the Yale School of the Environment before beginning a career in atmospheric research with The National Center for Atmospheric Research and the US Department of Energy.⁣ Cherelle then joined Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign and moved back to Louisiana, where she is fulfilled by connecting the experiences of Gulf South communities including Ashé Cultural Arts Center and with those fighting the climate crisis across the world, like DeCOALonize Kenya and Save Lamu.
