WASHINGTON, D.C. --  House Republicans today released the FY2019 farm bill. The bill weakens the SNAP anti-hunger program and includes provisions undermining bedrock environmental safeguards for clean water, wildlife and forests.

In response, Athan Manuel, director of public lands protection for Sierra Club issued the following statement:

“Yet again we see House Republicans offering tax breaks to corporations at the expense of American families. This bill takes food off the table, makes it easier for corporate polluters to contaminate drinking water supplies, weakens common sense protections to keep wildlife safe from toxic pesticides, logs away the future for our forests, guts water conservation programs… the list goes on. The public deserves safe and healthy food, water, wildlife and forests. The Sierra Club urges the House and Senate to vote down this dangerous bill.”
