Maryland’s 2026 General Assembly session ended at midnight on Monday, April 13. Our Chapter had some important successes, but this was a challenging session where we at times needed to work hard against proposals to weaken Maryland’s existing environmental programs. Nevertheless, the Chapter’s staff and volunteers played major roles in advancing our priorities, mitigating proposed environmental rollbacks, and positioning our bills well for further progress in 2027. New Report: Upgrading low-income households with heat pumps provides $800 million in annual energy savings, health and climate benefits
Maryland can help residents save up to $1,500 annually on energy bills, create healthier air, and meet the state’s ambitious climate goals by pursuing a targeted approach to equitably upgrade low-income households with highly efficient heat pumps and heat pump water heaters under a Zero-Emissions Heating Equipment Standard, according to a new report published today by the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter and the Center for Progressive Reform.
