Fighting for sustainability, health, and climate in the District since 1993

Sierra Club’s District of Columbia Chapter advocates for the preservation of nearby nature, promotion of good environmental policy, and for sustainable and healthy communities in DC. Our volunteer-led advocacy and organizing has won significant environment and climate progress in the District. We are more than 2,000 dues-paying members and 6,000 activists and supporters in DC. We need you to join us so we can keep fighting!

Volunteer with us

We are strong advocates for environmental and climate priorities at the DC Council and the District’s government agencies. Our work includes testimony and public comments, policy analysis, and advocacy updates. Powered by committed volunteers, we turn ideas into action and make real progress on cutting pollution of our climate, air, and rivers – and to hold decision-makers accountable.

Our people-powered advocacy depends on the support from folks like you who care about environment and climate priorities in the District. We’re up against serious organized money and big corporations, but together we can level the playing field. Your contribution helps us build community power and push for bold climate action that puts DC residents and our environment first. You can make a one-time gift, give monthly, or become a Sierra Club member which supports us while giving you a voice in the decision-making of the DC Chapter. 100% of your donation stays right here in DC. Please consider us in your giving.

Our beautiful nature, in DC and in nearby Virginia and Maryland, is under-appreciated and deserves to be protected. Sierra Club's Potomac Region Outings organizes hikes, walks, paddles, and other outdoor activities throughout the region. These outings give us a chance to explore the District and the area's natural beauty while learning about local conservation efforts. By connecting with nature, we gain a deeper appreciation for the landscapes and wildlife that make our region special. Together, we can enjoy the outdoors and take meaningful steps to preserve it for future generations.
