Vote
Local Election Day is Saturday, May 4, 2024! What's on the Ballot for May 4th?There are two elections in May and even though the Sierra Club has not taken a position in either election, we hope you will vote in both of them.Saturday May 4th is the local election. Everybody in the county can vote in the Tarrant Appraisal District board election and many residents within the county have City Council and school board elections. Residents of Fort Worth also have Proposal A on the ballot. Appraisal district board members: Voters in Tarrant County will elect three members to their local property appraisal district board. Appraisal district boards don't make decisions about property values, but they appoint members to appraisal review boards, which hear valuation protests from taxpayers and can choose to lower property values. Bond propositions: Fort Worth Residents will have a say regarding a local bond proposition: Proposition A. If Proposition A passes, the city of Fort Worth will increase the "bed tax" (hotel occupancy tax) to 17%. The additional tax will generate $9.5 million annually that will be put towards the debt incurred by the convention center’s expansion project. Primary Runoff Election Day is Tuesday, May 28, 2024!
