Events at Kohler-Andrae highlight threat

Stop the Swap: Kohler-Andrae still in danger from Kohler Co.

Learn, hike, and immerse yourself in the beauty of a Wisconsin gem on Sunday, Sept. 29, when Friends of the Black River Forest and the Sierra Club present Learning About Our Wisconsin Gems at Kohler Andrae State Park.

Birders at Kohler-Andrae State Park

The program will begin at noon in the enclosed shelter at KASP with a presentation by Steven Davis of Edgewood College, Madison, author of Wisconsin State Parks: Valuing the Invaluable. Davis will speak on the economic and ecosystem value of the Wisconsin State Park System and the danger presented by privatizing public lands in our state.

After a break to explore the park, Rebecca Gilman of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology will speak at 2 p.m. on the significance of the Harrington Beach/Kohler Andrae Migratory Corridor.

You can register for the event here.

The Sierra Club joins FBRF in this kickoff event, whose mission is to educate Wisconsin residents on the value of our state parks. The Department of Natural Resources continues to hold prime acres of KASP dunes and forest for development by the Kohler Co., despite the revocation of Kohler’s permit to build a golf course nearby.

The DNR and Gov. Tony Evers have been asked repeatedly to rescind the agreement, but the agency is leaving the decision up to Kohler.
