October outings: Free Youth Fun Run and Milwaukee River hike

The Great Waters Group has two outings planned in October:

Free Youth Fun Run at Havenwoods

Saturday, Oct. 14, noon to 2 p.m.
Havenwoods State Forest, 6141 N. Hopkins St., Milwaukee

Calling all kids and families! Join the Sierra Club Great Waters Group for a free Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Havenwoods State Forest, 6141 N. Hopkins St. Food, water and small prizes will be  provided. It will be fun for the whole family. The event runs from noon to 2 p.m.  

The race will be on Havenwoods' blue trail, which is about 1 mile on soft grass and dirt. Youth and families are encouraged to run (or walk) the course as many times as they would like. Please wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather.

Youth from the Havenwoods neighborhood are especially encouraged to attend, but the event is free and open to everyone.

Explore the Milwaukee River Greenway: An Urban Natural Refuge for All

Sunday, Oct. 15, 1 - 4 p.m.
Meet at Hubbard Park, 3565 N. Morris Blvd., Shorewood

Fall trees above Milwaukee River

Join us Oct. 15 for a collaborative outing with the River Revitalization Foundation.

Hike along the East Bank of the Milwaukee River from Hubbard Park down to Turtle Park, the headquarters of RRF, and return. We'll discover ecologically and historically significant sites along this roughly 2.5-mile section of the Greenway and learn about the collaborative work that led to the creation of the Milwaukee River Greenway.
