Exploring the West Side of the Milwaukee River Greenway: The second GWG and River Revitalization Foundation outing

Turtle Park, 2134 N. Riverboat Road, Milwaukee

Hike along the Milwaukee River’s West Bank from the River Revitalization Foundation’s  Turtle Park to Capitol Drive, returning via Kern Park and the river trail. Discover ecologically and historically significant sites, 5 miles roundtrip.

Highlights:

  •    Hike along the West Bank of the Milwaukee River, beginning at Turtle Park, the headquarters of the River Revitalization Foundation, to Capitol Drive, returning through Kern Park and the river trail. Discover ecologically and historically significant sites along this roughly 2.5-mile section of the Greenway (5 miles out and back).
  •  Learn about the “Area of Concern (AOC) Projects" for the environmental restoration of the Greenway, and the vision for how the Milwaukee River Greenway will be preserved and enhanced for generations to come.
  •  Meet at Turtle Park (2134 N. Riverboat Road, Milwaukee). Wear good hiking shoes, bring water (and a snack if you wish) and be prepared to explore an urban wilderness.  
  • There is an option for some hikers to return to Turtle Park on Humboldt Blvd. via a Milwaukee County bus from Kern Park.
  •   In case of heavy rain, hike will be rescheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
