Election Endorsements for Great Waters Group Members – It’s Not Too Late to Make a Difference in Key Races

Though the clock is running down, it is not too late for Sierra Club-Great Waters Group members to hit the sidewalks and porches in support of endorsed candidates and incumbents. Make sure to wear your Sierra Club gear! Other possibilities for engagement include sending postcards or joining us on November 2 for a virtual Volunteer Night dedicated to Getting Out the Vote.

Mandela Barnes for U.S. Senate and Tony Evers for Governor of Wisconsin.

Mike Van Someren for U.S. House of Representatives. Van Someren faces incumbent Scott Fitzgerald whose League of Conservation Voters score for the last congressional session was 4%.

Wisconsin State Senate endorsements for our area are Sen. Tim Carpenter, D-Milwaukee (SD 3); Jessica Katzenmeyer, D-West Allis (SD 5);  and Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee (SD 7). Incumbents Carpenter and Larson both received a score of 100% on the Wisconsin Chapter’s Legislative Scorecard.

We have a substantial slate of endorsed candidates and incumbents in races for State Assembly: Sarah Harrison, D-Brookfield (AD 13); Ryan Clancy, D-Milwaukee (AD 19); Rep. Daniel Riemer, D-Milwaukee (AD 7); Rep. Sylvia Ortiz-Velez, D-Milwaukee (AD 8); Rep. Marisabel Cabrera, D-Milwaukee (AD 9); Rep. Dora Drake, D-Milwaukee (AD 11); Rep. LaKeshia Myers, D-Milwaukee (AD 12); Rep. Robyn Vining, D-Wauwatosa (AD 14); Rep. Kalan Haywood, D-Milwaukee (AD 16); Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde, D-Milwaukee (AD 17); Rep. Evan Goyke, D-Milwaukee (AD 18); Rep. Christine Sinicki, D-Milwaukee (AD 20); Nathan Jurowski, D-South Milwaukee (AD 21); Rep. Deb Andraca, D-Whitefish Bay (AD 23); Bob Tatterson, D-Mequon (AD 24); Daniel Larson, D-Cedarburg (AD 60); Deborah Davis, D-Franklin (AD 82); Lu Ann Bird, Hales Corners (AD 84); and Christina Barry, D-Pewaukee (AD 98).

All of the incumbents listed above have received a score of 100% on the Sierra Club’s Legislative Scorecard for their votes on environmental issues.

Some of you may remember 2008, when Illinoisans flocked to Wisconsin to canvass with us because their state was a lock for Obama. No matter where you live in the Great Waters Group 4-county-plus-Sheboygan area, you could still do a lot of good in potential swing assembly districts in suburban Milwaukee, notably in Brookfield, Pewaukee, Cedarburg, and Mequon. You can contact the individual campaigns via their websites and sign up to canvass, phone bank, or do a lit drop.

Especially interested in receiving your help are the campaigns of Christina Barry (Pewaukee) and Nathan Jurowski (South Milwaukee).

Both are running against incumbent Republicans – Adam Neylon (SD 98) and Jessie Rodriguez (SD 21) – who have occupied their seats since 2013, when they were part of Scott Walker’s freshman legislative class. Like the Republican majorities in both houses of the Legislature, which vote as a block, the two suburban Republicans scored 0% on their Legislative Scorecard.

It is well past time for a change.  You can register to join Christina Barry for a lit drop on Oct. 22 by clicking on https://mobilize.us/s/kRs0FN. Or sign up for weekly canvasses at: https://www.mobilize.us/?q=Pewaukee

You can volunteer for Nate Jurowski’s effort to unseat Rodriguez by contacting Ethan Masarik at manager21@assemblydemocrats.com.

Thanks to all of our volunteers who are doing so much to turn out the vote in this important election.
