Demand Cleanup not Coverup at Edmonds Marsh/Estuary
Citizens attending a recent hearing spoke strongly against Department of Ecology plans to "cap and cover" rather than clean up contamination on the property adjacent to the Edmonds Marsh. More than 100 people attended the hearing and many made impassioned and eloquent statements, but unfortunately only official written comments will be considered.
Please submit your written comments against Ecology's determination that cleanup is too costly for the polluter, the Chevron corporation. This property needs to be made safe for re-establishing a connection to the Sound and re-creating salmon habitat. |

Free Trees Create Urban Forests
Can you give a baby tree a good home? The Snohomish Conservation District is looking for homes for free trees. If you have space in your yard, at work, or in a community space such as schoolyard or churchyard, request a tree.
In October the League of Women Voters Snohomish County joined the Healthy Forest Project to plant trees in the Henry M. Jackson Park in the Delta Neighborhood of Everett. |

Some Native Plants Still Available
Free plants requiring little maintenance, due to being adapted to local climate, recently drew a crowd at the Susie Schaeffer Wildlife and Native Plant Community Garden, formerly the Edmonds Native Plant Demonstration Garden. As part of the Garden's mission to educate the public about the benefits of native plants, all plants come with descriptions of the plants and instructions on how to care for them.
Some baby cedar trees are still available. To request one or more, contact the Edmonds Stewards through Greg Ferguson at gghhff@me.com |

Recycling Plant Tour Was Fun
That's the report from members of the environmentalist group Green Snohomish, who visited Republic Recycling recently. They learned there is always more to learn about recycling: most importantly that materials must be clean and dry. Also be sure not to stuff recyclables inside plastic bags.
They recommend that you save your most recent copy of recycling guidelines that come with your recycling schedule; rules change as the process is constantly improving. |
