Trail Talk: Reading the Landscape Successful hike!

Back in April with the phenomenal leadership of UVM students we hosted a Trail hike and Talk at the Otter Creek Gorge Trail (stewarded by the Middlebury Area Land Trust)!

We gathered at the trailhead at Belden Falls and make our way across the suspension bridges above the falls, and then headed into the woods to learn all about landscape natural history and read the landscape. The hike is moderate and approximately 2.5 miles long – we climbed a few hills with an elevation gain of 291 feet, crossing bridges, and descending staircases, so make sure you bring shoes that have good traction.

Here is a map of the hike. We started from the parking area off of Beldon Falls Rd and completed the full trail loop.User-added image
