What are we asking for?
1. Immediately stop pumping freshwater flow out of the marsh into the lagoon through the storm drain system
. Install a simple weir (water gate) at the north culvert under East Cliff Drive to retain freshwater in the marsh up to the safe levels (below street elevations).
2. Mark the marsh as a wildlife area. Install an identifying sign: Welcome to the JESSIE STREET MARSH
3. Create clear delineations where people may and may not walk: paths, barriers and signs as approved in the Jessie Street Marsh Plan
4. Clean up garbage throughout marsh area weekly or more
5. Initiate once to twice daily visits by social service workers to monitor and offer shelter and treatment services to displaced people and IV drug users
6. Carefully remove invasive non-native bullthistles, ivy, iceplant and african kikuyu grass and plant natives called for in the marsh plan before winter rains
7. Actively involve engaged stakeholders in next phases of the marsh restoration, including adjacent property owners and residents on all sides (including Spanish speakers), as well as the Santa Cruz Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Santa Cruz Bat Club, the Santa Cruz Bird Club, the Friends of Jessie Street Marsh, and the California Native Plant Society, among others.
8. During Winter 2016-17: allocate and/or apply for funding to
.remove/reorient fill to match JSM mgt plan elevations and contours
.restore tidal connection
