1. To mention the following events in the March newsletter of the
Club (Rick will write). Fliers are attached.
1. The Community Meeting “Will Auxiliary Lanes Work? A
Look at Transportation Alternatives” on March 30th, 10:20am
at the Aptos Library. Transcom wants to invite Lani Faulkner to
speak at the meeting.
2. Caltrans Whistleblower: A Zoom Interview with Jeanie Ward-Waller,
introduced by Senator John Laird, March 19th 7pm
3. Sponsor a film showing and tribute to past Freeway Fighters and
Sierra Club leaders Peter and Celia Scott, Paul Elerick, and Bill Malone.
This would be part of the Reelworks Film Festival, which takes place around May
1. The film, Divided Highways, a PBS documentary, is a historical look
at the US embrace of the highway system and its negative impacts on
communities. It also documents the freeway revolts in Boston and
San Francisco. The request is for $500 to spend on publicity (Facebook
ad, etc.) The purpose of this event is to raise money for the lawsuit, and
raise awareness that the current fight against highway expansion is a
prominent environmental cause in our community.
