As many of you know, the Southern Nevada Group of the Sierra Club is currently starting up our local Outings program again, after a too-long hiatus. We have already had a few successful outings and are scheduling more! But we would like a chance to get to know our past, present and potential future leaders better, and to talk over what we can do together to help provide even more local outdoor activities for all in the southern Nevada region.
We are planning an informal get-together on Saturday, May 6th from 11 am to 1 pm at the Red Springs picnic area on the edge of Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area. We will provide cold soft drinks; please bring water and your sack lunch. (There is no available drinking water on the site; there are vault toilets). We will talk about leader training for those who need it, First Aid certification and supplies, and share ideas for potential hikes, camp trips, and other local outings! Remember, outings can be anything from an evening walk in a local park to multi-day backpacking trips in the area (and everything in between!); it’s up to you! This is also a great opportunity for local leaders to meet each other in real life, and discuss ideas for outings they can co-lead together!
We will bring Sierra Club T-shirts and other SWAG for leaders, as well as commonly-used items that you can use to replenish your First Aid kits (OTC meds, bandages, tape, etc.) Before or after the meet-and-greet, you are welcome to explore some of the local trails on your own or with some new hiking buddies. (No formal hike is planned, and there are short and longer hikes you can enjoy from the trailheads nearby). Good news: the long-term weather forecast for the area looks pretty darn good: highs in the low to mid-80s with mostly sunny skies. Let's get out there and enjoy the day together!
