We are building volunteer teams to work on some campaigns around the most important climate issues facing Las Vegas. The issues we are focused on are water and land conservation, energy, and urban planning. We are also building up our Outings Program to get people out to enjoy our public lands surrounding the Las Vegas Valley. Join a new team and get to know other Southern NV Sierra Club members as you strategize and plan to accomplish our goals for a better world.
Contact Teresa Bell Toiyabe.volunteer@sierraclub.org to volunteer or find out more.
Here are the new teams you can join:
- Water and Land Conservation Team (WALT)
- Lived Environment (urban planning and transit)
- Energy
- Outings (which includes our Inspiring Connections Outdoors program
What does it mean to volunteer on these teams?
We will be planning that together, but the ways that Sierra Club organizes on issues is to work with the public, educate the media, and lobby public officials. We will be able to train our volunteers on all of those activities.
What will the Water and Land Conservation Team do?
This team will focus on promoting water conservation both locally and regionwide. We will also work on protecting special places like Avi Kwa Ame (a-vick-qua-meh), and other natural areas.
What will the Lived Environment (Urban Planning & Transit) Team do?
This team will continue to fight sprawl, and work on expanding public transportation as well as other forms of more climate friendly development.
What will the Energy Team do?
This team will work on stopping and expansion of natural gas, and promoting solar energy in areas that do not conflict with nature.
What is the Outings Program?
Sierra Club takes members of the public on hikes to beautiful places around Las Vegas. We offer our volunteer outings leaders training, first aid certification, and insurance in case of any accidents. We also have a volunteer program called Inspiring Connections Outdoors, which takes underserved youth on camping trips.
