The Sierra Club Southern Nevada Group is part of the Toiyabe Chapter. It represents the southern part of the state of Nevada, which is the ancestral home of the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Nuwu (Southern Paiute) peoples, and encompasses the Basin and Range biome as well as the Mojave Desert.
This area is naturally rich in wilderness and outdoor recreational opportunities, including three (soon to be four) National Monuments, as well as numerous national conservation areas, national forests, national recreation areas, and several state parks. We work with elected officials and government agencies to pass legislation or administrative policies to protect (or stop legislation that harm) these precious natural and biodiverse resources, landscapes, and environments, as well as ensure climate justice is part of the legislation.
We also create informative and educational events for our community to help them understand the complicated world of politics, legislation, and how it plays the biggest role in the environmental causes today!
