Cicadas come out of the ground every so many years depending on the species. This past summer, two species showed up in Adobe Valley, between Lee Vining and Benton: Okanagana bella (black with red markings) and Okanagana gibbera (black with tan markings). O. bella was known to be in that area, O. gibbera was not. In fact, it was a surprise. O. gibbera is in Nevada, but it is only found in a few places in California. So, has it always been in Adobe Valley and we just didn’t know it or has it moved westward and is coming into California?
