Dear Friend,
Here we are in the middle of March and the saying "in like a lion, out like a lamb" doesn't seem to be holding up. It's more like in like a lion and the lion doesn't leave. Well, we can be that lion too. Covid restrictions have lifted across the Sierra Club and we're ready to see you again and would love your help. We're going to Conservation Lobby Day in Carson City on March 27th, join us! It's time for members to vote for Sierra Club Board of Directors, and everyone to help the Mojave Desert Tortoise. We're moving into community event seasons, join us to table at events, or sign up to be an Outings leader. Other events include a Lake Tahoe cleanup, and virtual presentations around 30x30 sites to protect. Most importantly, we look forward to seeing you again. As always, thank you for all of the amazing work you do and your ongoing support.

34 Million Years of Existence Threatened by Large Scale Solar
Tortoise fossils in the United States date back 34 million years. Will their epic longevity end on our watch? The desert tortoise, a USFWS threatened/listed species is directly in the path of nearly a hundred large-scale solar projects in Nevada. When the BLM approved the 2012 BLM Solar Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, it may have sealed the fate of the Mojave Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) in Nevada. The BLM opened up more than nine million acres of public land to solar development and applications flooded in. Read more... |

Volunteer to Table Community Events
Tabling Events for Toiyabe Chapter is a fun way to volunteer. Tabling teams come up with fun, interactive activities that can help raise awareness and garner support for our issues, advertise for events, and recruit new members. Earth Day is coming up and there are usually many opportunities for tabling events, as well as all year on campuses, farmers markets, fairs, and more. What Is Tabling? Set up a table with information and sign-up forms and then engage with passersby to recruit them as members, inform them about Sierra Club policy issues, and ask them to take action. Read more... |

On-demand Recording: the Harms of Exploratory Drilling
There are five exploratory drilling projects in the Eastern Sierra that could eventually lead to open pit gold mines. Gold is not a critical mineral, but the high price of gold is driving companies to look for gold, even microscopic gold that wasn't worth going after before. While mining has a huge impact on the environment, exploratory drilling impacts the environment too. Read more and watch the recording... |
