We are so excited to begin our work with the Legislative Committee for the upcoming legislative session. The session starts on February 6th, and our committee will be evaluating the bills as they come up for any Environmental, Equity/Justice, or other issues related to Sierra Club values. Our committee will be providing written and oral testimony to either support or oppose these bills. We also have our very own bills that we are working to get passed: a bill to require restaurants to ask before providing plasticware and other items for To-Go orders; and a bill to ban neonicotinoid pesticides for home use (these are the pesticides most responsible for bee colony collapse). Our work will start with two training sessions to better understand the legislative process and how we can be most effective in our advocacy. Then when the session starts, we will begin our work evaluating and responding to proposed bills. We are looking forward to getting started and making a difference for the environment! We are still accepting volunteers. If you are interested, please fill out this Questionnaire/sign-up form and we will be in touch with you.
