The Federal Railroad Administration is currently conducting a long-distance service study that was mandated by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. The Nevada Rail Coalition (NRC) and the Toiyabe Chapter Transportation Committee encourage you to visit the webpage, read a bit about the purpose of the study, and sign up for updates.
This study will be an important piece of implementing the NRC’s passenger rail expansion goals in Nevada. The expansion of these priority passenger rail improvements will rely on Amtrak and the results of this study to be successful.
Three of the priority passenger rail improvements include:
- An extension of the California’s Capitol Corridor service to Reno
- Re-starting Amtrak service between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas
- Improvements on the existing California Zephyr route
Rail is one of, if not the lowest carbon emission transportation options available to us. Check out this great fact sheet from the NRC to learn more about why expanding rail is so important!
