Reno Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) is right on target, with our first snowshoe trip scheduled for January, 2023. We still need your help!
A big thank you to the Toiyabe Chapter for providing a seed grant which has enabled Reno ICO to move forward rapidly in our mission:
Through the Toiyabe Chapter Grant and two grants from the Sierra Club, we have bought clothing and equipment to support up to 35 participants and volunteers to go snowshoeing. And we have scheduled our first two snowshoe trips for students from Proctor Hug High School in Reno to go to Donner Lake in January and February. These trips are a partnership between Reno ICO, Washoe County School District, and California State Parks.
- Reno ICO will provide leadership, insurance, equipment and will fund transportation and food.
- Washoe County School District will provide the students, Adventure Club advisors, and supervision.
- California State Parks is providing free admission to Donner Memorial State Park and a ranger to guide the trip.
Reno ICO is a 100% volunteer organization funded by grants and donations. We are still in startup mode! While we have raised over $40,000 so far, we need another $60,000 in the next 12 months to complete our equipment storeroom, train and support our volunteers and trip leaders, and continue to get all Reno young people outdoors. For each trip, we provide equipment, transportation, food, and other expenses so that regardless of their means, all young people can participate. To get a sense of what these trips look like and their impact, please read Mari’s Story.
As we are coming to the end of the year, this is a great time to make a tax-deductible donation to Reno Inspiring Connections Outdoors. Every dollar goes directly to taking kids outdoors… and changing their lives. It is really easy: Just click here. Thank you for helping us change the world!
