Earth Day Across the Toiyabe Chapter

Here’s a round-up of Earth Day-related events. Find one near you, and join the Sierra Club as we celebrate, educate and inspire people to protect our favorite planet.

Las Vegas

Thousands of attendees and hundreds of booths, including the Sierra Club, will celebrate Earth Day at GreenFest, Saturday April 21, 9a to 5p in downtown Summerlin. Learn more at http://www.greenfestlv.com/.

Reno

Join the Sierra Club and hundreds of other organizations, vendors, and agencies, not to mention live music, artists, performers, and great food, at Reno’s Earth Day Celebration, Sunday, April 22 from 11a to 6p at Idlewild Park, about one mile upstream from downtown Reno. Free Admission.

 

Bishop-Mammoth

There are many great opportunities to learn more about climate change this Earth Day weekend in Inyo and Mono counties, sponsored in part by Sierra Club, Range of Light Group:

Friday. April 20: Lecture 7pm @ CERRO COSO Community College (Bishop) by Dr. Ben Hatchett, Desert Research Institute, Univ. of Nevada, Reno, “Landscapes of the Eastern Sierra as Climatic Time Machines.”  Free of charge.

Saturday, April 21: Activities, booths, tables, games, 10:00 am to 3:pm in BISHOP CITY PARK.  Free Film Screening: “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution”, 7pm at the Inyo Council for the Arts--a documentary by Jamie Redford about climate change solutions with special emphasis on California and Nevada. Also showing two short films on climate change. 

Sunday, April 22: at the Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center, 8am – 2pm.  All activities are free. Roadway cleanup at 8am, spring corn and pumpkin planting at 9am, short climate change films at 10am, student project winners announcements and dessert at 11:30am, climate change films at 12pm: Time to Choose, Part II Land & Food, Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution.

Tuesday, April 24: Mammoth Lakes Recreation is showing the film Saving Snow the evening of April 24, 7pm at the USFS Mammoth Visitor Center/Auditorium followed by a panel discussion with the mayors of Aspen and Mammoth Lakes, Steve Skadrow John Wentworth respectively, the Squaw Valley Ski Resort CEO, Andy Wirth, and Ron Cohen representing Mammoth Mountain. Our Ready for 100% Renewable Energy team will also be there to encourage people to join us in moving the TOML towards 100% clean energy.

Lake Tahoe

Squaw Valley Village is the site for the volunteer-run, non-profit Tahoe-Truckee Earth Day Celebration. Saturday, April 21, 11a to 5p. Come celebrate our beautiful region and learn how we can give it the care it needs. Join the Tahoe Area Group of the Sierra Club and many other exhibitors, presentations, and entertainment.
