Please help protect Mt Rose: support protecting acquired lands from development.
Here are the points to mention in your comments:
- Express your strong support for the proposed amendment to the Forest Plan to prevent commercial development on 3,446 acres of acquired Galena lands in the Carson Range.
- Support the USFS preferred Alternative 3 which best protects public safely and reduces environmental impacts to the Atoma ski area expansion site.
- Strongly support proposed actions to maintain public access for dispersed recreation uses – winter and summer – on 3,446 acres of acquired Galena lands and on the Atoma ski area expansion site.
- Mention why you treasure the Mt. Rose area and how you and your family and friends have used the Mt. Rose area for recreation.

Many thanks for taking action to help protect Mt Rose.
Background: Sierra Club members and other groups “saved” Mt. Rose from the proposed massive Galena ski/casino/residential development in the 1980’s. We helped to find the funds to acquire these treasured lands in our own backyard and then to have the lands donated to the Forest Service in 1994. We now need your support to amend the Forest Plan to prevent all future commercial development; Let's keep Mt. Rose open and free to the public.
