ess than a hundred years ago, the East and West Lyell Glaciers in Yosemite were connected. Today, the East Lyell Glacier is shrinking fast and may not any longer qualify as a glacier and the West Lyell Glacier could soon share its fate. The nearby Maclure Glacier is shrinking, too. A June 2016 article in the High Country News quotes Yosemite's geologist, Greg Stock, as saying that the Lyell Glacier could be gone within 10 years. Read the article here.
