The Nevada Conservation League and the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club released the following statements following the announcement that the US Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that the Greater Sage-Grouse does not require protections under the Endangered Species Act.
“The Nevada Conservation League is pleased to learn that the historic conservation efforts that have been undertaken by local stakeholders have eliminated the need for an Endangered Species Act listing. As this process moves forward, we look to our federal and state agencies to ensure that the momentum continues and that conservation programs are fully funded and implemented.” - Robert Buntjer, Chairman, Nevada Conservation League.
"The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club has been involved with sage-grouse efforts since the early part of the last decade and we applaud the myriad of efforts that agencies and individuals on the federal and state level are putting into reversing sagebrush habitat declines. Our hope is that there are clear roles and responsibilities at all levels to ensure that projects are funded, that the projects are successful and that resources are appropriately prioritized." - Rose Strickland, Public Lands Chair, Sierra Club, Toiyabe Chapter
