Intern & Volunteer

Intern with the Texas Sierra Club

Intern Or Volunteer With The Sierra Club's Lone Star Chapter!

The Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter is looking for committed individuals with a strong passion for the environment and social justice to fill engaging and rewarding internship and volunteer positions. If you care about the impacts of climate disruption, clean air, water, a strong economy, and preservation of wilderness, please contact us!

We are looking for dedicated and motivated people to help get our issues into the media, build coalitions, organize events, and lobby decision-makers. Ultimately, you’ll help us build the kind of public support it takes to win.

Want to help but aren't ready to dive into the deep end? There are many other areas you can help. Writing letters to the editor, monitoring news, conducting research... there are many ways to help! Got a special background that you think could be valuable to our efforts? Let us know about it!

With more than 100,000 members and supporters in Texas, we are one of the state’s largest grassroots environmental organizations. We seek to accomplish our mission statement - to explore, enjoy and protect - the planet through active education and promotion of the responsible use of the Earth's ecosystems and resources.

What We Do

The Texas Sierra Club educates the public and our members on energy, water, and the natural environment issues. We promote solutions that will create thousands of new, green jobs that stimulate the economy, all while conserving our water and ensuring we have clean air to breathe. We accomplish this through political and grassroots action that focuses on activities at the Texas Legislature, state agencies, city governments, and communities around the state where public policy decisions affect people and the environment

Opportunities & Expectations Of Interns

The ideal candidate for an internship with the Sierra Club is self-motivated, energetic, flexible, and a strategic thinker with very strong writing abilities, good organizational skills, and a passion for the environment and social justice.

Interns will learn many of the skills used in grassroots and advocacy organizing by working with professional staff at the Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter and Beyond Coal Campaign.

All internships are paid, and may have the option to be remote. Interns are welcome to use the office based in Austin, Texas, but we are unable to provide housing or relocation assistance. Interns are expected to work 20-25 hours a week on a flexible schedule, in conversation with the respective hiring manager. Hours include being present during regular office hours and attending meetings and activities. Sierra Club will also reimburse any internship-related travel costs. Interns can recieve school credit if desired, but note that most interns are not required to be enrolled in a school. Thus, internships might not follow a conventional semester schedule.
