The Texas Climate Jobs Project and labor unions are working together to help lead on climate change. Their plans work to address the climate crisis and create jobs that benefit workers and their communities.
Peg Hill will be the program speaker. Peg will cover information from NOAA fisheries and from two recent National Geographic trips that she has taken to the Northwest and Canada along the Columbia, Salmon and Snake Rivers and into Desolation Sound in Canada.
The program was wonderful. The Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has a “Wildlife Center of Texas” on Old Katy Road.
The three speakers, Randolph, Jean, and Monica, did a great job of telling about their efforts to rehabilitate injured or abandoned wildlife and releasing these fellow Earth-travelers back into the wild.

In October 2024, the Houston Regional Group and Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club visited and hiked Compartment 68, Sam Houston National Forest, to collect information to provide to the U.S. Forest Service about the proposed Compartments 52, 54, and 68 Mulching Project.

On October 2, 2024, the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra met with the Texas Conservation Alliance and U.S. Forest Service, Angelina/Sabine National Forests, in-the-field, to discuss the proposed Brookeland Thinning Project.
On October 12, people from all across the country celebrated our system of National Wildlife Refuges by attending an event called “Walk for the Wild.” Many participated by taking a 5K hike, but we decided to do our outing in boats at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge.
Being a Houston Sierra Club outings leader is a rewarding and joyful experience. In part, that’s because of the wonderful people you meet when you visit a local, regional, state, or national park or other protected area on a Sierra Club outing.
