In a Giving Mood? Explore Meaningful Ways to Support the Environment

As the year winds down, the crisp air of fall gives way to the warmth of the holidays - a season of reflection, gratitude, and giving. It’s also a critical time to consider the challenges ahead in protecting Texas’ environment, clean air, and water.

If you’re thinking about making an end-of-year donation to the Sierra Club, the good news is there are many impactful ways to give beyond a traditional check, including donating your vehicle, workplace giving programs, gifts of stock or property qualified charitable distributions from an IRA, and more! Let’s explore some of these options and how they support our work at the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter

The Environment Needs Us Now More than Ever

From intensifying hurricanes on the Gulf Coast to worsening droughts across Texas, climate change is reshaping our world. Pollution from fossil fuels threatens our air, water, and health, while our electric grid struggles to meet demand during extreme weather events.

The Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter is uniquely positioned to drive meaningful climate action in Texas. With policy expertise, grassroots organizing, digital engagement, and a dedicated network of volunteers, we’re working tirelessly to build the future Texas deserves.

Now Is the Time to Act

Experts agree that urgent action is needed to combat climate change. Your gift empowers us to expand our programs, campaigns, and advocacy efforts. Together, we can challenge corporate polluters, influence state leaders, and create a cleaner, healthier Texas for generations to come.

Ways to Give: Maximize Your Impact

When you support the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter, you’re investing in meaningful climate solutions. Explore these unique giving options to make your donation go further.

Give Through Your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) - Qualified Charitable Donations

If you’re 70.5 years old or older, you can give any amount (up to a maximum of $105,000) this year from your IRA directly to the Sierra Club Foundation which can allocate the funding to the Lone Star Chapter per your request. You can do this all without having to pay income taxes on the money. Plus, once you turn 73 years old, you can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) with a gift through your IRA! Making an IRA gift to the Lone Star Chapter through the Sierra Club Foundation will help us keep critical work like our clean air program running. And it’s easy. Check out this Q&A with Norma, who walks through how she made a QCD gift to the Lone Star Chapter.

Please contact us at lonestar.chapter@sierraclub.org (use the subject line "IRA Gift for the Lone Star Chapter") to ask how you can make a donation through your IRA to help the Lone Star Chapter continue this work.

Donate Stock to Maximize Benefits

Another gift option is donating stock. Donating stock shares is a win-win-win because your gift is tax deductible and you avoid paying capital gains while helping us to continue our work. Plus, if you want to support our legislative work you are welcome to make a non-tax deductible donation of stock. For any questions or to donate stock, please contact lonestar.chapter@sierraclub.org
