The Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter is thrilled to welcome our newest team member, Evgenia Spears. She will be serving in the role of Water Program Coordinator, responsible for the Lone Star Chapter’s work to ensure that Texas waterways are both abundant and healthy enough to support surrounding human, animal, and plant life. With Evgenia’s leadership, we aim to move Texas toward a culture that preserves and protects our finite water. She will collaborate with Chapter staff and volunteer leaders as well as community groups and partners to develop and promote our water policy objectives through administrative and regulatory advocacy, policy analysis, coalition organizing, and legislative lobbying.

Evgenia holds a Doctorate degree from Texas A&M University, focusing on human-nature relationships and stakeholder engagement. She joined Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter to advance the protection of Texas water resources and advocate for a future where water symbolizes harmony, justice, and shared responsibility. Her professional journey has included leading various conservation projects and conducting public outreach to educate community residents and policymakers about water quality, fostering collective action to safeguard the “lifeblood” of the Lone Star State. In her most recent role, Evgenia developed educational campaigns focusing on surface water quality standards, ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping the future of Texas water.

Having lived in Russia and Ukraine, Evgenia found her home in Texas where she could pursue her passion for environmental protection. She is happily married and has a 15-year-old son who shares her love for nature and dreams of a career in natural sciences. Evgenia says, “It's a privilege to join the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter and to share my efforts with an incredible team that will support my passion for protecting our natural resources. As Water Program Coordinator, I look forward to my engagement with the myriad communities of Texas to ensure that all the diverse voices are heard in our conversation around water in the Lone Star State. I can't wait to dive into this role and make a meaningful impact on Texas' water future!”
