Political Volunteers Needed

Political Volunteer visual

This is it. It’s 2020. It’s time to give it all you’ve got to elect people who will act in our best interests - from Washington to Austin. The Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter is seeking a volunteer who can commit 5-10 hours per week (or more) to make sure our political program runs smoothly so we can reach as many people as possible to elect pro-environment candidates in November.

Specifically, we’re looking for a volunteer to keep our TurnTexasGreen.org website up to date, which is where the Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter posts information on endorsements, political events, and other information. We also need someone to help engage our social media audiences, especially on Facebook, and support designing visuals in support of our endorsed candidates.

This political volunteer(s) are asked to do the following:

  • Maintain our TurnTexasGreen.org website

  • Research political campaigns and find campaign contacts

  • Post political content and help be our “voice” on social media

  • Design shareables in Canva

What about you? You are committed to putting your heart and soul into the 2020 election. You share the values of the Sierra Club, and want to see more pro-environment, pro-justice candidates elected to office. If you aren’t familiar with maintaining a website (like Wix), you’re not afraid of learning how to do it. You understand that to win, we need folks to pitch in, even on tedious administrative stuff. If you’re not already familiar with creating digital content (visuals, graphics, etc.), on platforms like Canva, you’re not afraid of diving into it and learning how to do it. You’re savvy on social media, and could represent the “voice” of the Sierra Club’s statewide political work on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

We are asking only for volunteers who can commit to about 5-10 hours per week to take on this important responsibility. We know your time is valuable, but we are confident that doing the leg work and background stuff will pay major dividends in increasing political support for sound environmental policies. If you become a Chapter Political Volunteer, the Sierra Club is committed to giving you enough support to make this a rewarding experience for you (We hope one of your best experiences ever!).

The Team: You will work most closely with the Lone Star Chapter’s Political & Communications Director, but work may also involve a larger team that includes the Chapter Political Committee and Regional Political Committees around Texas.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please reach out to Matthew Johnson (the Lone Star Chapter's Political & Communications Director) at matt.johnson@sierraclub.org or at 512-888-9398.
