The Sierra Club's Lone Star Chapter welcomes our newest interns, Michaela Urban and Alexis Fischer!
Michaela Urban
Michaela Urban is a second-year Sustainability Studies major at the University of Texas at Austin. As she is a long time advocate and member of the Sierra Club, interning at the Lone Star Chapter is a great opportunity to showcase her love for and knowledge about the environment and the ever-changing nexus between nature and humans. She is passionate about spreading love for the precious ecosystem services our natural surroundings provide and disseminate ideas about what we can do as a community to preserve and value this.
In her free time, she enjoys exercise, tea, watching soccer, and spending time with her family and friends. She is most excited about improving her communication skills and interpersonal relationships as a Sierra Club intern, while simultaneously crafting her own identity by weaving in others’ ideas and advice in this professional environment. She sincerely hopes to build relationships that last and collaborate with the Sierra Club in achieving its mission of protecting natural resources so that future generations can enjoy our planet’s beauty.
Alexis Fischer
Alexis is a third-year Communication and Leadership major with a concentration in human rights and social justice. Previously, she has done independent research on water accessibility as well as civic engagement in East Austin. Her passion lies in women’s empowerment, and she hopes to travel the world to engage in collaborative and creative environments with women. Alexis is also an editor of ORANGE Magazine, an independent publication, and enjoys writing as a creative outlet as well as a way to communicate.
Alexis is a student, ally, optimist, and lover of the great outdoors, and hopes to utilize her experiences at the Sierra Club to empower vulnerable communities through grassroots mobilization and leadership.
