You call and email your elected official. You show up to community meetings and volunteer, and want to be part of the movement to explore, enjoy, and protect Texas. Are you ready to step up your commitment? The Nominations Committee of Lone Star Chapter’s governing body, the Executive Committee (ExCom), is seeking recommendations for potential ExCom At-Large nominees. The Committee will consider all nominees for inclusion on a candidate slate this Fall. At-Large ExCom members are elected by the entire Chapter membership and serve three-year terms. The Committee is tasked with reviewing the qualifications and commitment of potential nominees as part of the vetting process.
The Chapter bylaws also provide an option for interested members to nominate themselves through a petition candidate process. Candidates petitioning themselves must be a Lone Star Chapter member and should be proposed in writing with the signatures of at least 100 Chapter members prior to the deadline for receiving petitions: November 14, 2015.
Serving the Sierra Club and the Lone Star Chapter is an important way to be involved in making a difference on the environment in Texas. Being in a leadership position in this powerful organization is a fulfilling experience. The Nominations Committee asks that you consider the level of commitment you will make to the Chapter should you be elected to the ExCom. All of the potential nominees evaluated by the Nominations Committee are asked to at least commit to:
- Attending at least 75% of the Chapter ExCom meetings (three of four quarterly meetings) and being an engaged participant at the meetings
- Contributing or raising at least $250 per year for the Chapter
- Participating in supporting the financial health of the Chapter through a variety of activities, such as serving on the Development Committee, assisting in local or Chapter events that benefit the Chapter, reaching out to or identifying likely donors, etc.
If you are interested, please send a brief statement with background information, a description of how you see your role with the Chapter ExCom, and your supporting material, to Evelyn Merz at elmerz@hal-pc.org no later than November 14, 2015. If you have any questions, please call Evelyn at 713-644-8228.
