The Sierra Club announced today the hiring of Reggie James as Interim Director of the Lone Star Chapter. James will lead the chapter for a six-month term, at which time the chapter’s Executive Committee expects to hire a permanent Chapter Director. With more than 25 years of experience, James is an innovative non-profit executive with experience in consumer and environmental policy and advocacy. 
As former director of the Southwest Regional Office of Consumers Union in Austin, he has worked on legislative and regulatory advocacy for improved public and environmental health and safety, and for better low-income legal representation.
At Consumers Union, he focused much of his efforts on alleviating food safety and public health and environmental problems relating to conventional agricultural and other food production practices. He oversaw advocacy and national online organizing on a range of issue including health care, financial services, energy, telecommunications, and other consumer issues. James is also a Navy nuclear submarine veteran.
“I have known, collaborated with, and admired Reggie for years and am very excited to be working with him again,” said Cyrus Reed, Conservation Director of the Lone Star Chapter. “We look forward to developing and implementing innovative strategies both to strengthen and grow our organization and to advance clean energy, water, and environmental justice across Texas.”
James takes the helm of the Lone Star Chapter from Reed, who has been serving as Acting Director since October 2014.
“I am a full-time admirer of the Sierra Club and I am eager to play a leading role in helping to boost the Lone Star Chapter’s effectiveness as an agent of change,” said James. “We have several challenges before us this year, building better fracking regulations, ensuring renewable energy is allowed to flourish, and protecting our air and water, just to name a few. I encourage all Sierra Club members and supporters to be active and stay engaged with us as we fight to protect and enhance Texas’ natural wonders and put her on a sustainable path.”
