The Shelby County Municipal Solid Waste Region Board has received an application from Shelby Oaks Planned Development for a Class III landfill proposed to be located in Shelby County at 5559 Shelby Oaks Drive, Memphis, Tennessee. The purpose of this proposed facility is to dispose of construction and demolition wastes that cannot be recycled by local and typical commercial standards. The State of Tennessee, which established the Board, requires there be an opportunity for public comment; therefore, the comments shall be received from December 24, 2018 until January 24, 2019 and a public hearing will be held on January 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the conference room of the Shelby County Roads and Bridges Office at 6449 Haley Rd., Memphis, TN 38134. Oral and written comments regarding the facility will be accepted at that time. The Board is charged with determining if the Class III solid waste facility complies with the Ten Year Shelby County Municipal Solid Waste Regional Plan adopted by the Board and updated annually. A copy of the Plan and the application are available for review prior to the public hearing Monday through Friday in the Shelby County Roads and Bridges Office at 6449 Haley Rd., Memphis, TN 38134, telephone number 901-222-7770. Written comments should be mailed to Lisa Williams, at the aforementioned address. Email comments should be sent to lisa.williams@shelbycountytn.gov. Following the Solid Waste Board’s approval action, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will review the Part II application for final action.
