The Memphis Zoo's abuse of its overflow parking privileges has gone on too long.
Years ago, Memphis administrators allowed the Zoo to use the Greensward--the large grassy field in the heart of Overton Park designed by George Kessler in 1906--to park cars on days of extraordinary attendance.
In recent years, the Zoo has added exhibits and expanded their attendance far beyond the capacity of their paved parking, and began to use the Greensward on a daily basis.
It’s time to end this destructive and intrusive practice. Mayor Jim Strickland has offered a very reasonable and realistic set of alternatives to the continued abuse of our flagship park, but the Zoo has rebuffed it.
Send a message to the the Memphis City Council today. Demand that parking ON our park end.
