Monday, March 21st, the Chickasaw Group of the Sierra Club is honored to host a program on the state of water quality protection in Tennessee by Paul Davis, former Director of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Division of Water Pollution Control.
The program will will present an outline of how federal and state clean water programs operate in Tennessee. This will be followed by a discussion of current issues related to water quality regulation in Tennessee, opportunities citizens have to become involved, and why it's important that we all become effective participants. The program will end with time for discussion and questions.
The Tennessee Chapter's lobbyist, Scott Banbury, will also be on hand to give an update on particularly bad legislation currently being decided by the Tennessee General Assembly that threatens to gut our state's stormwater management regulations.
About the Presenter:
Paul E. Davis currently consults on Clean Water Act issues and teaches federal and state water programs through National Stormwater Center, and serves on the board of Cumberland River Compact. He worked for almost 40 years at the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation, Division of Water Pollution Control, serving as Director from 1988 until his retirement in 2012. He has had special assignments in the areas of interstate water quality and quantity, Mississippi River conservation, drought and flood response, and the TVA Kingston ash spill. Paul has been an invaluable resource to the Sierra Club and other water quality advocacy groups since his retirement from TDEC.
