Hello and Happy Holidays! My name is Dave Hoot. If we haven't met, I am the current chairperson of Sierra Club's Cherokee Group. First, thank you for your interest and involvement during the 2023 year. Much reflection happens during this time as we wind down and prepare for next year. I suspect you have spent considerable time thinking about our environment ...thinking about its wonders, threats, and future. I certainly have.
Among those thoughts, I am so grateful that the Sierra Club exists. Its grassroots structure embodies "people power" action toward a problem. When facing prevalent issues like Climate Change, pollution, and environmental injustice, the community and agency this affords is invaluable.
Looking ahead to 2024, please consider the Cherokee Group's and Sierra Club's "Enjoy, Explore, and Protect" mantra. We have many meaningful and impactful upcoming, exciting ways to engage in Southeast Tennessee and beyond! From our monthly informative presentations with environmental change-makers, to boots-on-the-ground direct action, donating, or becoming a member. All are great ways to Protect! Don't forget the Enjoy and Explore portion as well. Look for an upcoming schedule of local, expert-led outings and Sierra Club's exhaustive list of national and international outings.
Check out our January events below - a great kickoff to what's ahead for 2024! Let's make this a standout year for our beautiful earth!
Please feel free to reach out anytime,
Dave Hoot
