Help preserve Alameda County's eviction moratorium

In late March, as pandemic-related job losses mounted and rent payments loomed, many hundreds of our members and supporters responded to our call to urge their city and county representatives to implement emergency eviction and foreclosure moratoriums. Thanks to the collective advocacy of people like you, Alameda County passed an eviction moratorium that's among the strongest in the state. But the protections provided by that emergency ordinance are now under threat.

We need your help to support Alameda County renters. If you live in Alameda County, use our online action form to reach out to County Supervisors and urge them to pass the permanent version of our eviction ordinance and reject proposals to weaken the ordinance. Proposals to weaken the eviction moratorium include: adding more documentation requirements; removing no-fault evictions; removing the consumer debt provision; reducing the grace period from 12 to 6 months; and removing criminal penalties for violations.

Telling tenants that they have certain protections and then yanking them away would add greatly to the stress and confusion so many people in our community are experiencing right now. Please send a message to the County Supervisors today to help protect our most vulnerable neighbors at this time of unprecedented crisis.
