Get on the bus to Fresno to save our clean car standards

By Andrew Linhardt

Would you travel 10 miles to protect the climate? How about 20 miles, or 150 miles? Would you tell your story about why cars that emit less pollution are important to you?

In August the Trump administration unveiled its new proposed fuel economy and greenhouse gas standards for passenger cars and light-duty trucks, which would roll back the clean car standards for these vehicles put in place under the Obama administration. The clean car standards were intended to save the average driver in America about $1,500 per year, keep 4 billion barrels of oil in the ground, and reduce carbon pollution by nearly 6 billion tons. That's a lot of good accomplished in one rule, but the Trump administration recently released a revision that would flatline these standards.

Want to save the #CleanCar standards? Come to the hearing in Fresno on September 24!

There will be a free bus leaving the morning of the hearing from MacArthur BART station (details below), and you could be on it! Breakfast, lunch, coffee, and a t-shirt will be provided.

You'll have the opportunity to tell the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT)  to keep the 2012 standards and scrap the proposed changes that line the pockets of Big Oil and auto companies.

Event details:
Date: Monday, September 24
Meet: The bus from the Bay Area will meet at 7:30 a.m. outside MacArthur BART station; the bus will leave promptly at 8 a.m. You must RSVP and email julia.foote@sierraclub.org to reserve a seat on the bus. The bus will return to MacArthur BART no later than 8:30/9 p.m.

At the hearing, you will have an opportunity to oppose this attack on the environment. Joining with allies from across the country, we will make sure the EPA and DOT know that rolling back this important consumer and environmental standard is unacceptable.

P.S. Would you like to help but are nervous about testifying? No problem, just attend this webinar on September 17! It is not necessary to attend the webinar in order to testify, but it might help you draft your testimony.
