Join the Buy Clean campaign and help California's public works projects go green

By Molly Culton

Last year, Sierra Club members and activists helped us pass legislation to create the first state-level Buy Clean policy in the country to help cut greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change. The policy requires State agencies to purchase materials for public works projects from manufacturers that have invested in reducing their greenhouse gas pollution during the production process. In short, buy from the cleanest manufacturers, not the dirtiest.

This new law is in the process of being implemented now by the overseeing agency, the Department of General Services (DGS) and will take effect next year. The Buy Clean Campaign is looking at ways we can:

  1. make sure the State agencies implement the Buy Clean policy, and
  2. take the Buy Clean effort local and get city and county agencies to procure with GHGs in mind.
