Come see where the new shoreline will be with two meters of sea rise by the end of this century. After local scientists and public officials share causes of climate change, possible resilient shoreline solutions, and plans to prevent this destruction, volunteers will march with sea blue banners along the two-meter sea-level rise mark to show just how far inland the sea will come.

Bring your smiles and dancing shoes too — we will have a photo booth where you can pose with sea creatures that might be moving inland and music to brighten the day!

Come early and participate in the Albany Earth Day Shoreline Cleanup with The Watershed Project. Help remove plastics and other harmful trash to protect marine wildlife. Get a prize for strangest find!

Tips:

  • Ride a bike or drive and park at Golden Gate Fields lot at end of Buchanan St.
  • Look for sea blue pennants along the trail and at the CESP booth
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • We will march with banners on bamboo poles. Bring gloves, if you have them!
  • Wear sunscreen, hats and please bring your own water bottle

This Earth Day weekend, have fun and make an immediate impact by planting trees with the Sierra Club Tree Team. Get a good workout while contributing to Oakland's community spirit and environmental health. Our program helps Oakland continue its public tree-planting initiative.

We will be planting trees along sidewalks and streets in various locations in Oakland, but meet first at the Epic School parking lot for an orientation and safety briefing.

Bring your friends and/or make new ones. No experience is needed. You should be able to lift 30 pounds (half the weight of a new tree). Wear close-toed shoes, clothes that you can get dirty, and a hat for sun protection; bring your own water and a snack. We'll provide the shovels, picks, brooms, and gloves. If you are bringing a minor, please let us know.
