Only three ports in the state of California still export dirty coal, and one of them is right here in the Bay Area, on the Richmond waterfront. Our goal: Take Richmond off that list.
Join us at a campaign kick-off meeting to discuss ideas and strategies for stopping coal exports through the Bay Area.
DATE: Thursday, November 2nd
TIME: 7:00 - 8:30 pm
LOCATION: Richmond Progressive Alliance, 2540 Macdonald Ave, Richmond, CA 94804 (map)
Thanks to the falling price of clean energy and the commitment of activists like you, the coal industry is in retreat, and clean energy is on the rise. Last year, coal exports from California ports declined by more than one-third. In that same year, jobs in the solar industry increased 67 percent in the Bay Area, to over 26,000 jobs.
So WHY does the Bay Area — a region renowned for its environmental leadership — still have coal trains coming through its communities and blanketing its neighborhoods in toxic coal dust?
WHY do we allow massive uncovered piles of dirty, dusty coal right next to our Bay at the Levin-Richmond Terminal on the Richmond waterfront?
If these questions have you scratching your head, come to the November 2nd meeting and help us brainstorm ideas for moving the Bay Area beyond coal.
