The Sierra Club endorses Kate Harrison for the City of Berkeley District 4 special election to fill the seat vacated by Jesse Arreguín when he became Berkeley Mayor.
Kate Harrison's platforms stem from a long history of policy advocacy on a variety of environmental issues, including her work on Berkeley's Parks and Waterfront Commission, Housing Commission, and as an advisor to former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos. She is committed to building affordable, transit-oriented housing; protecting tenants from displacement; making city spaces sustainable, water-wise, and carbon-neutral; restoring and adding parks in District 4 and other underserved neighborhoods; and leading the charge for Berkeley to become its own green energy provider.
In addition to the Sierra Club, her endorsers include Assembly Members Tony Thurmond and Rob Bonta, Mayor Arreguín, City Council Members Ben Bartlett and Sophie Hahn, BART Board Director Lateefah Simon, the Alameda County Labor Council, the Alameda County Democratic Party, the Green Party of Alameda County, the Berkeley Tenants Union, and all nine Berkeley Rent Board Commissioners.
