In 2016, the Sierra Club is determined to help elect Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump and to help elect as many environmental champions as possible to the Senate so it is no longer controlled by right wing fanatics. One of the frustrations of living in a "blue" state such as California is that this is not a "swing" state and the polls indicate this is not where the election will be decided. In contrast, next door Nevada is very much in play in the Presidential race and there is a highly competitive Senate race to replace retiring Sen. Harry Reid.
You can send money or phone bank to help influence the outcome of these key Nevada races, but better yet you can also travel to Nevada for a few days or a couple weekends prior to Election Day to walk neighborhoods and help get out the vote for Hillary Clinton and Catherine Cortez Masto for US Senate. What better way to secure a White House and Senate victory then to knock on doors and help voters turn out in big numbers to secure a big decisive win in November. We will be walking precincts to contact targeted voters alongside our labor and environmental allies. We need to replicate the turnout of 2012. If turnout is low, we will lose and all we care about from keeping public lands public to combating climate change will be lost.
We know not everyone can travel to Nevada to help out, but if we can fill 3 or 4 buses with Sierra Club volunteers from Northern California to travel to Reno we can help tip this election.
At this point we are trying to assess interest and availability to see what folks are available to do. At the very least we want to get several busloads of volunteers for the weekend before the election, Nov 4-6. If there is enough interest we might do this for several weekends before the election. We can also work to accommodate those who might want to stay an entire week to help.
