Take part in Coastal Cleanup Day on Sat, Sept 17 — Hundreds of Bay Area locations!

Show your respect for our oceans and waterways by taking part in the state's largest annual volunteer event: Coastal Cleanup Day. Held each year on the third Saturday of each September,  Coastal Cleanup Day brings out thousands of volunteers to cover more than 2,000 miles of coastal and inland shoreline. During last year's statewide cleanup 68,000+ volunteers came out to pick up 1,142,997 pounds of trash and recyclables.

This year the Sierra Club is hosting two local events:

  • Along with Friends of Novato Creek, the Bay Chapter's Marin Group is hosting a cleanup at the Hamilton/Bel Marin Keys Wetlands restoration project sites in Novato. Meet us at the Pacheco Pond parking area on Bel Marin Keys Boulevard at 9 am. We'll finish up around 1 pm. Email Sue Lattanzio for more details.

  • The Delta Group will again host its annual shoreline cleanup work party at Contra Loma Reservoir starting. Meet at 10 am in the parking lot near the swim area. No entrance fee is required — just say you're on the cleanup crew! We'll finish up around noon. Contact Tim Donahue for more details at 925-754-8801 or timothy-donahue@sbcglobal.net.

If you're looking for a cleanup near you, or at a particular site, check out the interactive map of Coastal Cleanup events. There are over 100 cleanups all across the Bay Area!
