Steve Malagari

D

PA State Rep

53

Climate and clean energy are a major focus for Rep. Steve Malagari, a member of both the BlueGreen Caucus and the Climate Caucus.  He’s been involved in discussions around green hydrogen, looking to ensure production will be renewable energy-powered as much as possible.  In the near term, he wants to see adoption of Community Solar. Looking towards a next term, Malagari pointed to the need for progress on decarbonizing transportation – promoting EVs, finding funds for SEPTA to electrify its bus fleet, and probably pressing for green hydrogen to power trucking.

Melissa Cerrato

D

PA State Rep

151

Rep. Melissa Cerrato's major focus has been PFAS contamination, which has been a big part of her in-district engagement.  She is strongly interested in making progress on decarbonization and in the issue of the planned Hydrogen Hubs. She wants to work with the Sierra Club to stay current on environmental legislation and take action when she can, including co-sponsoring bills that are important to the Club.

Joe Ciresi

D

PA State Rep

146

Reflecting on the current legislative session, and progress on the environment, Rep. Joe Ciresi is especially pleased that his and others’ advocacy has brought funding and commitment to study restoring rail transportation to the district.  His other particular focus is advancing the transition to EVs.  He wants to see reform of charter schools and bringing the $.5 billion back to public schools, where the need for  building repairs is great.  He is strongly supportive of transitioning vehicle transportation in PA, and will continue to try to advance EV infrastructure.  He also wants to see requirements that all rehabbed and new state buildings convert to renewable energy.

Joe Webster

D

PA State Rep

150

The environment is a top priority for Rep. Webster.  He volunteered to join and was appointed to the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee in October 2023 - his 5th committee role.  He has co-sponsored and supports Rep. Otten’s Community Solar bill, Solar for Schools and other climate-related legislation we support.  He is also the lead sponsor of the Riparian Buffers bill and has been pressing DEP to get over its resistance to it. Rep. Webster is very pleased to have succeeded in getting HR 185 passed through the Joint State Govt. Commission - circumventing Senate gridlock - to fund a study of geothermal electricity generation from abandoned coal mines - a technology deployed in England.  He is also eagerly pursuing a flooding simulation project for the Perkiomen watershed with funding he was able to earmark last year.

Tim Briggs

D

PA State Rep

149

A strong supporter of cutting Pennsylvania's carbon emissions and advancing the clean energy transition, Tim Briggs has worked throughout his time in the House to build the size and influence of the House Climate Caucus.  Another key environmental priority area is waste and plastics pollution.  He is the lead sponsor of a bill in the current session to prohibit food establishments from providing single-use polystyrene food containers. Strengthening environmental enforcement is another priority and, through his role as House Judiciary Chair, Tim has sought to strengthen the role of the Attorney General's office in bringing polluters to justice.

Mary Jo Daley

D

PA State Rep

148

"
Rep. Mary Jo Daley is gratified that her lengthy campaign to get Pennsylvania to embrace Conservation Corridors(HR 87) has succeeded.  Because house resolutions don’t require approval in the Senate, this paved the way for PennDOT and DCNR to apply for and receive funding from the BIL to develop a wildlife crossing pilot initiative.  Looking forward, she plans to work on enabling Pennsylvanians to have new end-of-life alternatives beyond burial and cremation, in response to constituents' desires for alternatives, given the heavy carbon emissions associated with cremation. "

Nancy Guenst

D

PA State Rep

152

The environment is a top priority for Nancy Guenst. She attaches great value to protecting Pennypack Creek, which flows through her district. In her next term, her top environmental priorities are advancing solar power, making EVs more affordable, and ensuring that remediation projects of PFAS contamination are fully complete.  She is also concerned about plastics contamination, supports local initiatives to minimize plastic bag usage, and distributed 1,000 reusable bags to her constituents.

Liz Hanbidge

D

PA State Rep

61

Liz Hanbidge has supported priority Sierra Club legislation moving forward in the current session, including Solar for Schools.  Serving on the Local Government Committee, she crafted HB 1789 prohibiting Homeowners Associations from barring residents from installing rooftop solar.  She serves on the Agriculture Committee and has sought to further the transition of Pennsylvania farms to organic methods.  She is also especially interested in seeing Pennsylvania position itself to capture a share of the emerging green technology solutions industry, and she follows closely climate-related policy in other states.

Napoleon Nelson

D

PA State Rep

152

Rep Nelson is strongly committed to sustainability and decarbonizing the economy, while working to elevate and address other immediate challenges, especially within black communities. In his role chairing the House Black Caucus, he is working to leverage policies to combat environmental racism.

Madeleine Dean

D

US Congress

PA 4

The environment is a top priority for Madeleine, dating from her time in the Pennsylvania legislature. She believes that the right to clean air and water and a clean environment enshrined in Pennsylvania's Constitution should be enjoyed by everyone.  She re-introduced the PFAS Accountability Act, aiming to establish a cause of action, holding companies accountable for contaminating land and waterways.  She has a strong interest in expanding rail service in her district, dating from her days as a Township Commissioner.

Mary Gay Scanlon

D

US Congress

PA 5

Mary Gay Scanlon considers protecting the environment a major part of her lifelong advocacy for children and families. She appreciates the “important work the Sierra Club does identifying  issues where we can make a real difference, helping to educate me and the public”. “Climate is in my main bucket of focus”.  She has worked hard to defend and protect the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and prevent rollbacks. As part of her public outreach, she has hosted several workshops across her district to educate people on how they can benefit from the IRA and to understand the big picture of climate and the IRA. She helped to bring funds to the Eastwick section of Philadelphia to mediate against increased flooding due to climate change, and has worked to improve water quality for the section of the Delaware River that goes through Philadelphia that currently is impacted by waste water and untreated storm water runoff..
