Nov 4, 2017 - What a day for the first of what we hope will be many more Sierra Club events at Galer Estate Winery. I think everyone was impressed and enjoyed the winery. And they were awesome hosts, providing tables and tablecloths, display walls for the art, even special lighting and letting us put nails on the barn walls.
And the weather was beautiful.
We sold about 18 pieces of art and collected lots of donations from our many friends that responded to our outreach on email, social media, a write-up in the Daily Local News, outreach from allied groups like Save Marple Greenspace, Beaver Valley Preservation Alliance, and Neighbors for Crebilly and 4CP.
We raised over $1,000 that will benefit our volunteer efforts to protect Chester County's environment, fight for our last open spaces, and educate folks about negative impacts of overdevelopment.
A BIG THANK YOU TO KEN HEMPHILL for having this idea and planning it for the last 6 months.
And thanks to the other volunteers that helped out during the day, dropped off food and managed the art presentation and sales: Peggy, Eva, Bernie, Alexa, Carol, Sarah, Terry Whiteford on the piano and Richard for driving her there. And Emily Davis and Dave Moscatello journeyed out from Philadelphia to help out. Hopefully I didn’t forget anyone.
The artists were great. Over 30 different local artists contributed their work and helped create a great display inside, outside, along the breezeway, in the cabin. Even some artists at work setting up an easel to paint the vineyard and hillside.
Everyone said they were looking forward to the 2nd annual Paint Chester County. We learned a few things we would do differently next year, but overall it was a great fundraiser and social event. And we made some new friends who asked to be added to our SCofCC list.
