Green Country Sierra Club targets five goals in addressing appropriate land use:
1. Conservation of Open Space and Natural Habitat
2. Protection and Enhancement of Quality of Life
3. Conservation of the Urban Infrastructure
4. Improvement of Public Transportation Systems
5. Wise Use of Resources and Safe Disposal of Waste
We support access to – and protection of – abundant, convenient public open spaces, including parks and natural unimproved areas.
We oppose the harmful effects of urban and suburban sprawl. Sprawl is a pattern of increasingly inefficient and wasteful land use that devastates environmental and social conditions.
We encourage public land use policies that protect clean air and water, reduce pollution, control toxic substances, promote the development of green transportation alternatives and further the transition to sustainable energy sources.
