Earth Month 2023 Activities

We hope you can join us at an event this April to celebrate Earth Day. There are a variety of activities going on around the state. Take a look at our running list below:

Athens:
  • April 22nd: Reusable Bag Drive. Athens Farmers Market 8 am - 12 pm

Cincinnati:
  • SpringFest at Burnet Woods: an Earth Day Celebration. We will be tabling from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on April 22nd, alongside many other great groups. Sponsors for this event are UC Students For Burnet Woods, Sierra Club Miami Group, Burnet Woods Park Advisory Council and Cincinnati Parks. More information here

  • Earth Day Celebration: Tabling at the Cincinnati Zoo from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on April 22nd

  • Tabling at Great Parks of Hamilton County's Winton Woods from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm on April 22nd. The event is preceded by a park clean-up at 9:00 am, more information to come

Columbus:
  • The City of Columbus is coordinating hundreds of cleanups, tree plantings, and community garden projects across Columbus during the month of April. Most of those can be found online at https://www.earthdaycolumbus.org

  • April 15: Tree planting at 2180 Eakin Road. April 15th, time to be determined

  • April 21: Student Sustainability Earth Day Celebration at Ohio State. More information here

Marietta:
  • In addition to the Marietta Earth Day Celebration, there is a tree planting planned at Ohio River Island National Wildlife Refuge on the Ohio River near Marietta. The Refuge will provide a free pontoon boat ride from Williamstown, WV to the island for volunteers, and members of a local cycling and rowing club plan to row from Williamstown, WV to the island to participate. Northeast Ohio:
  • April 9th: Northeast Sierra Club is again partnering with the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) to promote an environmentally themed film The Smell of Money, a documentary about industrial scale swine farms that have created serious pollution problems in rural North Carolina. The film will be streamed online between 11 AM April 2 and 11:59 PM April 9. Please plan to see this important film and check out the CIFF website for more information about the festival and a schedule for all of the films

  • April 17th: Microplastic Madness Film Screening and Panel Discussion. 7 pm at Baldwin Wallace University in Surrarrer Auditorium located in Telfer Hall. Baldwin Wallace Department of Sociology in conjunction with the Northeast Ohio Sierra Club and Sustainable Berea will screen Microplastics Madness, a documentary film that details the efforts of a fifth grade class in Brooklyn, NY to study plastic pollution and respond to the threats posed by it.

  • April 20th: Cleveland State University Earth Fest Tabling. 9 am - 1 pm

  • April 23rd: Beach Clean Up. 10 am at Huntington Beach, Bay Village. Register Here

  • April 29th: Earth Fest. 10 am - 4 pm at the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, Rocky River

Portage Trail:
  • April 22nd: 10 am to 4 pm - at the Medina County Earth Day Festival, at Buffalo Creek Retreat

  • April 22nd: Noon to 5 pm - at the Hudson Earth Day Celebration, in Hudson, Ohio
