Dear Sierra Club Ohio Members and Supporters,
We hope you are staying safe during these harrowing times.
Today, we want to take a moment and ask for your support for the families of Casey Goodson Jr and Andre Hill. Last month, these men were brutally murdered by police in Columbus, OH. Casey Goodson was walking into his home, and Andre Hill was visiting a family friend. These horrific police killings continue to lay bare the institutional and systemic racism against Black people in this country.
We know it is our duty to speak out and take action against racist police violence, and we hope that you all will join us in responding to the following requests from Casey Goodson Jr’s and Andre Hill’s families:
- Donate to Casey Goodson Jr’s family. His mother, Tamala Payne, is now facing backlash for her defiant calls for justice: her home has been shot at and she and her family need all the support we can provide.
- Donate to Andre Hill’s family. Let’s help his family reach and surpass their goal as they pursue justice.
- Additional demands for action:
- Call and email the individuals on this list to demand justice for Casey Goodson
- View and support the demands listed here by the People's Justice Project, Showing Up for Racial Justice, Central Ohio Freedom Fund, and Black Abolitionist Collective of Ohio.
The Sierra Club spoke out and participated in the movement for racial justice this past year, and these recent murders affirm how pervasive racist police violence is in our country. The moment for action is now. And while the road to justice is long, we can take immediate steps to directly support these families and their demands.
Thank you,
Mary Aguilera
